A proud teacher moment

"What the teacher is, is more important than what he teaches. "
~Karl Menninger

As I told you, yesterday was "Children's Day" and I was armed with treats for all my students. But in the last class, my kids did something that was so unexpected. They are probably my favorite group of kids~ 6th graders who have so much fun and we love to laugh and talk. They always make fun of me by mimicking my "No Kor-ee-an!" phrase and they love to make me sound like I'm from the backwoods of TN. Well, at the end of class all the girls handed me a note that was entitled: I LOVE YOU TEACHER
and this is what it said:

Alice: I love you teacher! thanks you for teaching our. We are a little shortage but teacher always smile for us. thank you :)

Jenny: hello? my name is Jenny. you are so pretty. and Robbert is handsome. thank you for great teaching. I love you :)

Victoria: I love you, teacher. I will effort more. Please help me more! We love you forever.

Laney: Teacher! teacher make a smile everyday and always! and thank you for teaching we and have a nice day.

Sophie: Teacher! thank teaching me always. Thank you teacher!

So at the end of the day, THAT is why I teach... for moments like that when it becomes clear that I have touched their lives in some way. Even if their English doesn't improve (their parents might hate me), I know that each one of them knows how much I love them and want to see them succeed. That is a success in my book.

And here's to all you other teachers out there...

"If a doctor, lawyer, or dentist had 40 people in his office at one time, all of whom had different needs, and some of whom didn't want to be there and were causing trouble, and the doctor, lawyer, or dentist, without assistance, had to treat them all with professional excellence for nine months, then he might have some conception of the classroom teacher's job."  ~Donald D. Quinn

"In teaching you cannot see the fruit of a day's work.  It is invisible and remains so, maybe for twenty years."  ~Jacques Barzun

"A teacher is one who makes himself progressively unnecessary." ~Thomas Carruthers

"A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops."  ~Henry Brooks Adams

"The mediocre teacher tells.  The good teacher explains.  The superior teacher demonstrates.  The great teacher inspires."  ~William Arthur Ward

"The secret of teaching is to appear to have known all your life what you just learned this morning. " ~Author Unknown

"Don't try to fix the students, fix ourselves first.  The good teacher makes the poor student good and the good student superior.  When our students fail, we, as teachers, too, have failed."  ~Marva Collins

And as an education major, I really loved this post and the quotes about teachers. <3
